Life Before Photoshop -1950
Bruce Mozert was renowned for being pretty innovative, coming up with underwater tricks to make these scenes seem as real as possible including using baking powder to create the powdery “smoke” coming out of the underwater barbecue.

Me: *sees someone wearing black/grey/white/purple* I wonder if they’re ace….is that subtle ace pride…..I can’t just ask….that’s probably too much to hope for anyway……
Me: *wears black/grey/white/purple* I WONDER WHO’S WONDERING IF IM ACE
I genuinely hate the idea that everything has to be morally grey these days.
Some things aren’t morally grey.
Racism, bigotry, slavery, these things aren’t morally grey.
Sometimes black and white morality is allowed.
It’s not lazy to have black and white morality. Sometimes some things are truly good, and others are truly bad.
seriously though, list of fucking awful trends in the gay male community:
- “sassy black woman” voice
- t-slurs everywhere and rampant transmisogyny
- talking down to women/harassing them because “it’s ok i’m gay lol”
- transphobia towards trans men (ew, vaginas!!!)
- misogyny towards cis women (more ew, vaginas!!!!)
- “gay is the new black” (says white gay men)
like can we just address
And then they say that you’re being homophobic when you call them out on any of it.
you know those soulmate aus in fanfics where everyone sees black and white until they meet their soulmate and the world bursts into color?
the fbi agent’s world bursts into color when he turns on the webcam to monitor you for the first time
im deleting my goddamn blog for real this time
Things I’m sick of
- Asians being ignored in racial discussions or even worse, lumped in with whites as if we were essentially the same
- The utter lack of education on Asian directed hostility that has been a continued issue in the united states ever since we first started coming here.
- People treating all race issues as just Black vs White
- The assumption that since Asians have the stereotypes of being smart, docile, and nonthreatening, that we lack a struggle other minorities have
- The hypersexualization of Asian women and the complete desexualization of Asian men
- How almost all asian representation in media is accompanied with an accent, and rarely breaks from the stereotypes
• How people think “Asian” means “East Asian”
• The serious lack of diverse Asian representation in mainstream media
• In addition to that, casting someone of a certain Asian ethnicity in a role meant for another (as if all Asians are the same)
• “Are you sure you’re Asian? But you speak English so well!”
• “Aren’t all Asians supposed to be pale/petite/etc?”
what i want when i look up depression: those jokey posts that are actually a thinly veiled cry for help that are highkey relatable and an easy way for me to show im currently upset without being too obvious/worrying
what i get: black and white movie gifs with quotes taken way out of context and people making depression seem like some beautiful profound thing like nah fam i haven’t showered in 4 days and i want to die
shout out to all the black and white cats named oreo, all the orange tabbies named tiger, all the grey cats named smokey, all the black cats named shadow, and all the calico cats named patches
how could i forget the white cats named snowball, shout out to all the white cats named snowball
Can I add the three legged cats named tripod?
There’s this Thing that y'all don’t seem to get.
Gryffindors don’t give a shit about rules. The most hardline of them don’t even care about people. They care about justice. Right or wrong, black or white, there are no shades of grey. If it’s just, it’s always just; if it’s unjust, it’s always wrong. Hermione’s ruthlessness makes her a Gryffindor. She is absolutely sure that she is on the side of justice in everything that she does, and it’s such a Gryffindor trait.
Because Slytherins are ruthless, but they care about rules. Their own rules, usually, but rules nonetheless. They will impose parameters and limitations on themselves just so they have a framework to operate within. If doing something means violating their own internal code, then they’re not gonna do it. Even fucking Voldemort is like that. He broke every single fucking rule the Wizarding World ever put in place, but damn if he’d break his own.
And Ravenclaws? They hate rules. Fucking things just get in the way. They prevent creativity and keep people from accomplishing their goals. Ravenclaws are probably some of the most dangerous people in the entirety of the book series, because they’re brilliant and creative and ambitious and prideful, and when they snap, they do not have inhibitions. They will wreck everything that ever had the nerve to get in their way, and they will never once feel bad about it.
And then there’s Hufflepuffs. They emphasize equality. If the playing field is equal, then all other good things will come from there. People hear that, and they think that Hufflepuffs are pushovers. They cast them as the shy ones, the fearful ones, the insecure ones. Really, they’re none of these things. They are nice, accepting, friendly, this is all true, but they are also entirely willing to fight anyone that steps up to the plate talking shit. Hufflepuffs will defend themselves and other people until they drop dead, and it’s infuriating to see that only ever attributed to Gryffindors. Because the big difference is that a Gryffindor believes in acceptable causalties, and a Hufflepuff will knock your teeth down your fucking throat for even suggesting such a disgusting idea. For Hufflepuffs, there are no acceptable casualties; any loss of life is utterly unacceptable.
There are a lot of people that talk about House stereotyping, and then turn around and perpetuate further stereotypes. Gryffindors are not necessarily knights in shining armor; Slytherins are not necessarily callous villains; Ravenclaws are much more than just intelligent, and Hufflepuff is not the motherfucking potato House.
everyone talks about how terrible tumblr was from 2012-2014, but let me tell you, as someone who has been on this website for 5 years, 2015-2017 has been the absolute fucking worst from blatant bullying, to spreading extremely diluted information about mental illness, excusing unhealthy coping mechanisms, and adopting black and white thinking skills. yeah sure, there was some cringy shit back in 2012, but at least people were fucking nice to each other
In 2012-13 I saw someone get death threats for acknowledging that two characters in a video game were canonically coded of color and people of color were routinely chased out of fandoms (I was and still am in the fandom that both of these things happened in) but yes go on about how everyone was nicer to each other in that era.
baffling how much of this site is just conservative protestantism with a gay hat
you know what i’m in just enough of a bad mood that i’m ready to nail my grievances to the church door so let’s fucking go
- black and white morality wherein anyone who doesn’t believe/think/live exactly as I do is
a dirty sinnerProblematic and probably a predatory monster - everyone is
a sinnerProblematic buttrue believerspeople who activist the right way according to my worldview are still better than everyone else, and I will act in accordance to this belief in my own superiority to let everyone else know I’m better than them because Ifound Jesusam the most woke - casual and fucking omnipresent equations of womanhood with softness/goodness/purity/nurturing to remind every woman who isn’t/doesn’t want to be any of those things that they’re doing it wrong
- aggressive desexualization (particularly of women’s sexuality, to the point where it may as well not exist at all) accompanied by pastels [not a criticism directed ace ppl having a right to sex-free content and spaces but specifically targeted at a wider problem resulting from the previous point]
- YOU’RE VALID AND JESUS LOVES YOU and neither of these platitudes achieves a goddamn thing
- historical context is for people who care about nuance and we don’t have time for either (see: black and white morality)
- lots of slogans and quotes and nice little soundbites to memorize but does anybody actually study the source material with a critical eye to make their own informed analysis
- the answer is no
- I’ve been to bible study groups don’t @ me I know what the fuck I’m talking about
Good Christians™Nice Gays™ don’t fraternize with/let themselves be influenced bynon-Christiansthose terrible queers- all the media one consumes must be ideologically pure or it will surely harm the children
- it is Our Sacred Duty to protect the children from Everything, thus ensuring their innocence/purity/etc until such time as they are idk probably 25 years old
- literally just “think of the children” moral panic y’all can fuckin miss me with that
- people who don’t conform to the dominant thinking WILL be excommunicated/driven from the social group, and any wrong treatment they suffer will be seen as a justified consequence of their wrong thinking
- I Saw Goody Proctor With The Devil And She Had A Bad Steven Universe Headcanon
I think that too often, people who leave behind toxic belief systems might leave behind the beliefs but not the system. Like, a toxic religious or political ideology teaches you to think something dogmatically; when you stop believing, you think you’re free, but then you commit yourself to believing something else dogmatically. I see this a lot with some ex-Christian atheists: because they don’t believe in God anymore, they insist that anyone who does is illogical, stupid, etc. They’ve changed what they believe but not how they believe it.
